The 3.379 m² extenion building was pre-planned as phase 2 during the initial building planning process. Therefore, the extension is in a relevant scale and shape in comparison to the initial building itself, enabling a feeling of a whole, rather than an addition. In order not to apply additional loads to the initial building and to speed up the construction process, the extension was built with a steel construction system. Half of the 4 storey extension building will be used as a bone marrow research facility, while the other half will be used for IVF research. The extension building is made up of 22 patient rooms, 6 IVF recovery rooms, genetics laboratories and a bone marrow transplant center; all of which require extreme hygienic conditions. A hepa filtered (high efficiency particle absorber) ventilation system has been used, providing OR conditions in all patient floors.
